Fitter/Maintenance Supervisor

A long-established industrial manufacturing business in the Geelong region is seeking a Reliability Fitter / Maintenance Supervisor to join its operations team.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on improving asset reliability, strengthening preventative maintenance systems, and supporting production through high equipment availability. The position will commence casual, with a planned transition to permanent employment. We are open to experienced supervisors as well as strong tradespeople ready to step into their first leadership role.

The Role

Reporting to site leadership, you will take responsibility for maintenance and reliability activities across plant and production equipment, supervising an apprentice and working closely with production and technical teams. A key focus of this role is helping shift the site from a breakdown-focused approach to a planned, preventative, and reliability-driven maintenance model.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance on plant and production equipment
  
• Supervise, mentor, and support an apprentice fitter
  
• Lead fault-finding, breakdown analysis, and root cause investigations
  
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventative maintenance systems
  
• Ensure repairs are completed to a high mechanical standard
  
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, worksheets, and stock control of consumables and spares
  
• Work collaboratively with production to prioritise equipment uptime
  
• Review machinery condition and performance to ensure optimal operation
  
• Coordinate contractors where required (e.g. electrical)
  
• Safety & Compliance
  
• Lead by example in health, safety, and wellbeing
  
• Prepare and maintain written Risk Assessments, JSEAs, and SWMS
  
• Ensure safe work practices are followed at all times
  
• Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement controls
  
• Ensure compliance with site safety procedures, legal requirements, and duty of care obligations

About You

Essential:

• Trade qualified Fitter & Turner (or equivalent metal trade)
  
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  
• Competent welder (MIG & Stick); welding tickets highly regarded
  
• Experience with oxy-acetylene and welding repairs to iron and steel
  
• Ability to supervise and develop an apprentice
  
• Sound understanding of preventative maintenance and continuous improvement principles
  
• Strong safety focus with experience developing risk assessments and safe work documentation
  
• Effective communication and time management skills

Highly Regarded:

• Experience welding nickel or iron alloys
  
• High Risk Licences: Forklift, EWP (>11m), Rigging and/or Dogging
  
• Exposure to reliability engineering or asset management principles
  
• Pneumatic and hydraulic systems knowledge
  
• Experience in ISO-aligned quality systems
