Funeral Attendant and Mortuary Assistant Position

We are partnering with a local funeral home that has been delivering personalized and bespoke funerals for nearly four decades and are looking for the right person to join the team and help bring compassion and dignity to the team when families need it most.

In this important role, you'll be an integral part of our clients business, undertaking funeral assistant and mortuary attendant responsibilities on an as-needed basis, adhering to scheduled work hours, and actively participating in an after-hours on-call roster for the compassionate transfer of the departed into our care.

Role: Funeral Attendant and Mortuary Assistant

Type: Full Time


What you will do:

  • Assisting with the transfer of deceased persons
  • Providing mortuary assistance
  • Learning to prepare the deceased
  • Helping to dress and casket deceased
  • Trimming and preparing caskets
  • Assisting Funeral Directors at funeral services
  • Cleaning of premises, including vacuuming, sanitizing, and mopping
  • Maintenance of grounds and building
  • Cleaning hearses and transfer vehicles
  • General assistance around the funeral home
  • Chauffeuring families to and from funerals if required
  • Ensuring funeral vehicles are clean and packed with all necessary equipment
  • Warmly greeting and welcoming all family members and funeral mourners at a funeral service
  • Setting up graves





Position Requirements:

  • Compassion and Sensitivity: A crucial aspect of this role involves dealing with grieving families, requiring a high level of empathy and compassion.
  • Organisational Skills: Attending funeral services, managing paperwork, and ensuring smooth operations demand strong organisational abilities.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and empathetic communication is vital when interacting with both clients and the internal team.
  • Flexible: Plans can change for the day needing a flexible attitude to adjust and continue.
  • Can Do Attitude: The ability to fix the issue and get the show back on the road.
  • Physically Fit: Physically fit for the demands of the role.
  • Drivers Licence: Valid driver's license and ability to work independently.


There are no prior qualifications required for this position, all training will be provided on the job.
