Workforce Extensions | Scoresby's Client in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs require a Maintenance Fitter/Manager with a solid history in a Food manufacturing operation, with an in depth knowledge of Food Manufacturing processes, GMP, HACCP and Manufacturing CRM systems, ideally MEX Maintenance. The Maintenance Fitter/Manager will be a 30% (or as required) working on the tools and with the team role, with the balance of time, coaching, mentoring and managing the small maintenance team. Experience utilising & operating the Maintenance System with planning schedules, preventative maintenance, entering data, reporting and adding/updating daily work schedules is a must. The role is responsible for maintaining and repairing the premises, mobile and fixed plant equipment and machinery to ensure smooth and efficient operations in a busy Food Manufacturing plant. This role also involves troubleshooting mechanical issues, conducting preventive maintenance, organising external subcontractors, procurement of products necessary for repairs and to keep in stock and ensuring compliance with safety standards & regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team in Maintenance and Repairs of the Food Manufacturing plant and equipment.
  • Perform scheduled and proactive maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, conveyors, compressors, and other plant & machinery.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems, identify faults, and implement effective repairs.
  • Fabricate and modify mechanical components, structures, and fittings as required using various tools and machines (lathe, milling machine, welding, etc.).

Preventive Maintenance:

  • Conduct regular inspections, lubrication, and adjustments to machinery and equipment to prevent breakdowns.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
  • Follow and/or form a preventive maintenance schedule and contribute to the development of future schedules.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure that all maintenance work complies with relevant industry regulations, standards, and company procedures.
  • Organise & participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments and contribute to creating a safe working environment.
  • Ensure that maintenance tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
  • Work closely with mangement, engineers and the team of maintenance personnel to improve operational efficiency.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Recommend improvements to existing equipment and systems for increased reliability, productivity, and safety.
  • Participate in training and development activities to keep up with industry trends and new technologies.
  • Coach, Train & Mentor the maintenance team.

Qualifications & Skills:

Essential:

  • Relevant trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or equivalent (e.g., Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade).
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Fitter in a Food manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment.
  • Management or High Level Supervisory experience leading trades teams.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals.
  • Proficient in using mechanical tools, welding, and fabrication techniques.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety regulations in a Food Manufacturing setting.

Desirable:

  • Forklift License.
  • Experience with PLCs or automation systems
  • Welding or fabrication certifications.
